Artist's Comments

A Group of young trees shivering in the cold fog at Brimham Rocks, North Yorkshire, England.

Critiques

:icon4420:
I absolutely adore this piece, the subtlety of the tones and colour and the relatively simplicity of the composition are all perfectly judged.
I think a lot of artists would have been tempted to go hell for leather in photoshop and milk dry the purple and blue hues of the sky or maybe even introduce a whole new colour artificially but this piece work's on it's natural and subtle tones. There is just enough, the perect amount in fact,of colour in the sky to balance the green in the foreground and the whole piece allows the eye to rest easily within it's frame with no distracting objects or wayward lines.

As this is a critique I think I'd be doing a dis-service were I not to make a suggestion so I think maybe the slightest of tweaks on the contrast could bring alive the foreground a little or possibly a slight increase of the sharpness to that area.....but really it's minor tweaks and I can imagine both having a negative effect on the subtlety and restrained hand that mark's this shot out from others like it.

The only real negative thing I can think to say is that this only has fifteen faves,I think that is criminal.

I want this on my wall.

A bend in the road, is not the end of the road... unless you fail to make the turn.

Thanks Richard. I nearly didn't take this shot, Jackie, Steve and my brother Gary :icontaffspoon: were all trying to rush me back to the car so they could go get some breakfast. This is actualy the car park.

I disagree with your previous comment Tony. Jackie and Gary were the only ones trying to bring the breakfast situation to a speedy conclusion. As I recall, I was stood behind you egging you on to take this shot and at the same time giving you compositional hints and direction. I think the results of my advice are self evident :)

Seriously, I just got around to looking at this one and the critique given is spot on. Also, the actual shapes of the tree trunks lends a lot to the overall composition, being irregular that is, as opposed to plain old straight up! Nice one mate :)
